What Gearsentials measures

Gearsentials uses Google Analytics to understand which pages people visit, how readers find the site, and which buying guides are useful. Google says its default web implementation can collect session statistics, approximate location, browser and device information, and a client identifier stored in the first-party _ga cookie.
Affiliate-link measurement
When a reader clicks a product button, Gearsentials sends an affiliate_click event to Google Analytics. The custom event contains the page path, button label, placement on the page, and destination URL. It is used to learn which recommendations help readers continue to a retailer.
Gearsentials does not intentionally put a reader's name, email address, phone number, or other directly identifying information in these custom analytics events. The site currently has no email signup form or user account system.
Affiliate and external websites
Product buttons may lead to Amazon or another external website. Gearsentials may earn a commission from qualifying purchases, but the retailer controls its own website, cookies, account data, and checkout. Review the retailer's privacy terms before providing information there.
Your controls
Browser settings and privacy extensions can restrict cookies or analytics requests. Google also provides a Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on. Blocking analytics does not prevent the public articles from loading.
